dear husband

Dear Husband,

Thank you. Thank you for being my rock. Thank you for supporting me through thick and thin. What do the kids say now a days? You’re my ride or die. Yup, that. I don’t actually know if kids say that, but you are.

I’ve talked about it before, but it needs to be talked about again.

You have loved me unconditionally since day one. You have never asked me to change who I am inside or out. You support me in life. Even more than supporting me, you understand me. You get who I am as a person, and you love me for it.

I said it in our vows, and it holds true today. “I love you” isn’t enough to describe how I feel towards you. There are no words big enough really. So, I will continue to show you the best I can. I’ll show you how much I love and care and support you.  You are an amazing human being and I don’t take that for granted.

The wedding vows I recited to you during our wedding reception:

Richard, before you, well there feels like there was no before you.

Before you, I didn’t believe in a fairy-tale type of romance. I looked at love as something more practical; you found someone you liked, and you tried to make it work and maybe it would or maybe it wouldn’t. Then I met you.

You are a generous, kind, loving man. You have supported me inside and out, never asking me to change a single thing about myself. You made me believe in happily ever after.

Saying I love you isn’t enough; those words are not big enough to describe how I feel. So, since there are no words. I’ll show you. I’ll show you every day how much I support you, and care about you, and love you.

I love you Richard.

To be honest, I never wrote down my vows, I did it all in my head, so I just typed that from memory, but I’m 90% sure that’s what I said. I might be leaving out a line or two.

Anyways,  those vows said it perfectly then and describe how I feel today just as equally. It is so rare to find the type of connection we have.

It’s funny, we are literal opposites in every way; you’re chill, go with the flow, everything is fine and I’m high strung, needing plans, and concerned about everything. We balance each other out, and I think that’s why it works as well as well as it does.

I know you well enough to know this wasn’t needed. You know all of this. You don’t need pats on the back or praise, but I wanted to put it out there.

I wanted to shout it from the mountain.

Today’s top story in Alicia O’Reilly’s world read something like this: I love Richard O’Reilly.
